SINGLE ORGANIZATION STAKEHOLDER MAP
Why using it?
The aim of this tool is to empower stakeholders to jointly agree on common issues within the organization and to learn how the relationship between the relevant stakeholders can impact on a change objective (of the organization). The outcome is to identify opportunities of equal benefits for the stakeholders involved.
What is it?
An easy visualization of the network and the relationships between the actors.
Steps
• Establish the issue at stake that requires mapping.
• Identify all the stakeholders, which are then physically represented on a large piece of paper.
• Define and draw the connection that show a relationship between different stakeholders. Different types of relationship are allocated using different colored pens (with the relevant arrow heads showing the direction of the connection).
• Once the network is formed, the participants define and discuss interpretation of concepts such as power and interest in relation to the issue that was defined prior to the established network. These concepts then represented on each stakeholder by stackable objects (e.g. stackable discs or Legos or bottle caps of different colors) to illustrate the different levels according to the participants’ perceptions. (Color legends: GREEN indicates high interest, ORANGE indicates medium interest and RED indicates low interest).
Tips for the facilitator:
Let the participants identify all the stakeholders involved, also the most unusual ones.
